Keywords | Private business sector, peace process, civil war> |
Countries | Guatemala |
Objectives | The goal of the research is to examine if the public demand for an increased active intervention of the private business sector in conflict prevention and conflict transformation is realistic or not. The issue will be investigated from a corporate point of view. In other words: Does the corporate sector profit rather from peace than from war? What are the motivations and what are the strategies of primarily national companies in diverse economic sectors in conflict ridden societies? A central focus will be laid on the relationship between the private sector and the state. The research project will develop a broad theoretical framework and examine in detail the corporate involvement of the organized private business sector in the civil war and the peace process in Guatemala. |
