December 2006 - Caleb Wall successfully defended his doctoral thesis on "Knowledge Management in Rural Uzbekistan: Peasant, project and post-socialist systems of knowledge in Khorezm" on December 14 2006.

December 2006 - Gert Jan Veldwisch participated in the Regional Expert Meeting 2006 for non-EU Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. The meeting was organized by the Development Policy Review Network and the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague, The Netherlands on December 8 2006.

November 2006 - Caleb Wall participated in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Global Environment Outlook, final authors meeting in Cairo, Egypt from November 12- 17 2006.

September 2006 - Oksana Forkutsa successfully defended her master thesis on “Assessing Soil- Borne CO2 Exchange in Irrigated Cropland of the Aral Sea Basin as Affected by Soil Types and Agricultural Management.” on September 28 2006. She has conducted her Master Study in the ARTS program.

Juli 2006 - Caleb Wall attended a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) regional consultation in Pattaya (Thailand) from July 3 to 7 2006. This was part of his ongoing “Global Environmental Outlook” Fellowship with UNEP. He represented the 'Policy' team.

June 2006 - Darya Zavgorodnyaya successfully defended her doctoral thesis at ZEF on "Water User Associations in Uzbekistan: Theory and practice" on June 12 2006.

May 2006 - Marc Müller successfully defended his doctoral thesis at ZEF on May 20th, 2006 on "A General Equilibrium approach to Modelling Water and Land Use Reforms in Uzbekistan"

May 2006 - An official inauguration ceremony for the honorable professorship awarded to Prof. Paul L.G. Vlek took place in the presence of the members of the Science Council of the University of Urgench.

Februrary 2006 - Asia Khamzina successfully defended her doctoral thesis at ZEF on February 14 2006 on “The Assessment of Tree Species and Irrigation Techniques for Afforestation of Degraded Agricultural Landscapes in Khorezm, Uzbekistan, Aral Sea Basin“. The exam committee consisted of Prof. H. Goldbach (Chairman), Prof. P.L.G. Vlek (1st supervisor), Prof. H. Eggers (co-referent) and PD Dr. Worbes (co-referent).

January 2006 - Irina Forkutsa successfully defended her doctoral thesis on "Modeling Water and Salt Dynamics under Irrigated Cotton with Shallow Groundwater in the Khorezm Region of Uzbekistan" on January 27 2006. The exam committee members were Prof. Dr. A. Skowronek (Chairman), Prof. Dr. H. Eggers (1st Professor) and Prof. Dr. P.L.G. Vlek (2nd Professor).
