Sustainable management of land and water resources in Uzbekistan -the ZEF/UNESCO project in the Aral Sea Region
Reducing the inefficient and excessive use of natural resources, while improving rural livelihoods, is important for the sustainable development of Uzbekistan. A pilot project led by the Center for Development Research (ZEF) at the University of Bonn titled ‘The economic and ecological restructuring of land and water use in the Khorezm region, Uzbekistan’ is dedicated to improving the economic efficiency and ecological sustainability of the agricultural sector in the Khorezm region. An important part of this research is working with local stakeholders to design and successfully implement technologies and innovative solutions developed during the project’s lifetime.
