Living and studying in Bonn

ZEF - located in the midst of Bonn.

The Center for Development Research (ZEF) and the Bonn International Graduate School for Development Research (BIGS-DR) are located in the City of Bonn, the former German capital. Over the past decade, Bonn has become a hub for international citizens and organizations including several United Nations institutions (UNU-EHS, UNCCD, UNFCCC).

Bonn - an attractive place for international scientists!

Bonn is also hosting a wide range of (international) research institutions, UN agencies and national actors in the field of development cooperation and policy such as the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Humboldt Foundation, the German Development Institute (DIE), etc.

University of Bonn

ZEF is part of the University of Bonn and thus cooperates closely with its faculties. Most of our doctoral students obtain their doctoral degree from one of the university's faculties.

A productive environment

Thus, Bonn offers an ideal environment for networking and exchange with international scientific colleagues and non-academic experts.
