| Thursday, April 26, 2018 l 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm "African agricultural transformation: the IITA Agripreneur Approach to Job Creation" Background: International and German experts on Africa and development will meet at ZEF in Bonn to consult about the perspectives of Africa's agricultural development and the options it offers to young people on the continent. The event is hosted by ZEF and organized by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), the largest international agricultural research institute in tropical Africa, based in Nigeria. Since its inception 50 years ago the institute has trained and educated more than 140,000 people in Africa for the agricultural sector, in addition to more than 2,000 young Africans trained as agricultural entrepreneurs within its program "IITA Youth Agripreneur". Background: Ethiopia is home of the coffee tree. Yet, in the country's coffee regions, many people are malnourished. A ZEF-based research team found that vegetable consumption in the project region was inadequate. Together with local experts and farmers they tried to cultivate nutritious and shadow-tolerant plants in the coffee forests and… to persuade consumers to eat these plants, which are often considered weeds. Background: ZEF will focus on research of bio-economy. ZEF is involved in several research projects dealing with aspects of the bioeconomy, as the topic is becoming increasingly important for developing countries. We'll offer edible insects and other products to touch, watch and explain. So try and discuss the bioeconomy with us at the ZEF booth. ZEF's research will be (re)presented in several tents of Bonn University. The University will be at the heart of this year's outdoor exhibition because of its 200-year jubilee. ZEF will present in: the "Bonn Alliance for Sustainability Research" (Bonner Allianz für Nachhaltigkeitsforschung) tent together with the Bonn Alliance partners Hochschule Rhein Sieg, BICC, DIE and UNU-EHS and, in addition, in the tent "World of insects" together with Museum König.
