Alumnus succeeds in acquiring funds for German-Pakistani research collaboration

Usman Khalid Awan, a former ZEF doctoral student from Pakistan, has taken the lead in acquiring research funds under the recently established German-Pakistani Research Collaborations Program of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Dr. Awan conducted his doctoral research in the context of the ZEF/UNESCO project in Uzbekistan.

ZEF Director holds UNESCO chair „Education for sustainable development“

ZEF Director Prof. Dr. Paul Vlek was officially inaugurated as a UNESCO chair-holder in Urgench, Uzbekistan, on July 15, 2011. This chair on “Education for sustainable development” is one of 15 chairs initiated and supported by UNESCO worldwide and the first one in Central Asia. Around 50 representatives of the science and education community of Uzbekistan, local and national government as well as of international donor agencies attended the inauguration ceremony taking place at the State University of Urgench in Khorezm, Uzbekistan.

ZEF/UNESCO project presents its achievements

The ZEF/UNESCO project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) since 2002 organized a symposium to present a decade of project achievements to local as well as international partners, collaborators and interested stakeholders. The symposium took place in Urgench on July 15 and 16, 2011. About 80 participants attended the symposium, consisting of presentations combined with field visits to project sites.
