ZEF junior researchers Wendy Chávez Páez and Serena Olivera at the 35th International Geographical Congress in Dublin, Ireland

September 10, 2024.

ZEF junior researchers Wendy Chávez Páez and Serena Olivera held presentations at the 35th International Geographical Congress in Dublin, Ireland (August 23 - 30, 2024).

Wendy Chávez Páez presented her poster “Integrated and Convivial Coastal Management” with augmented reality. The poster illustrates three alternative futures for the Gulf of Guayaquil, that can be reached through the implementation of the principles of Convivial and Integrated Coastal Management, and the escenarios are based on the interviews and focus groups with the communities, and translated into art by the artist Freddy Barreiro.

Serena Olivera was the speaker of the presentation "Glocal bioeconomy: analysing the role of local resistances", a work co-authored by Laura Rojas Bernal, both junior researchers in the Transformation and Sustainability Governance in South American Bioeconomies (SABio) project. The presented work stemmed from the term paper they had developed within the framework of the interdisciplinary courses at BIGS-DR. For the congress, the authors used an extended database from the Environmental Justice Atlas and conducted a more in-depth analysis of local resistance movements to bioeconomy-related projects.
