Topic: Economy of Love: A Model for Upscaling Sustainable Agriculture
Speaker: Dr. Thoraya Seada, Director of the Carbon Footprint Center, Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development & SEKEM
Abstract
SEKEM named its economic activities already decades ago an economy of love, referring to the conviction that all economic activities shall serve the potential unfolding of people. Starting from the farmers until the end-consumer, an economy of love offers all participants of the value chain a fair part of the value creation. After SEKEM established a fair and competitive economy among its own producers, processors, co-workers and partner networks, it recently developed a role model to be multiplied and disseminated within the country and beyond. The Economy of Love Standard and the associated EoL Carbon Credits offer a unique approach to support farmers in their conversion to sustainable agricultural practices, sequester carbon, enter the market with competitive prices and enable consumers to make a transparent and responsible purchasing decision.
