ZEF is involved in the Lecture Series "Global Solutions for Sustainable Development", which is organized by the University of Bonn and UNESCO.

The Lecture Series will bring members of the Scientific Advisory Board of the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to Bonn to talk about state-of-the-art topics relating to Sustainability.

About the Lecture Series:

Global Solutions for Sustainable Development Lecture Series with Members of the Scientific Advisory Board of the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the foundation of the Scientific Advisory Board in 2013. It comprises 26 renowned international scientists from various fields of natural, engineering, and social sciences and the humanities, as well as the interdisciplinary subjects of oceanology, climate change and biodiversity research.

The Scientific Advisory Board advises both the UN Secretary-General and the executive heads of UN organizations on matters involving science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development. Particular focus is placed on the interfaces between science, research and practice.

With its 18 UN organizations, Bonn is Germany’s United Nations City. Together with numerous international organizations, the University of Bonn, other higher education and scientific institutions, as well as federal ministries and agencies, the UN organizations form a cluster addressing the challenges of global structural change. Linking the UN, the sciences and the international wealth of experience, Bonn is a collaborative hub for innovative solutions to the global challenges faced today.

This lecture series was developed by the Liaison Office International Academic Sciences of the City of Bonn. In cooperation with the German Commission for UNESCO and the Forum Internationale Wissenschaft of the University of Bonn, the Liaison Office invited renowned members of the Scientific Advisory Board whose respective research fields are also represented in Bonn’s international scientific and academic landscape. These eminent experts will report on their current research and discuss recent developments with a professional audience and the interested public. The lecture series is a “20 Years‘ United Nations in Bonn” event and supported by the Foundation for International Dialogue of the Savings Bank in Bonn.
