RLC Public Talk on Human Rights and the Empowerment for Change

Human Rights and the Empowerment for Change. Public Talk with Laureates of the Right Livelihood Award from Gaza and Malaysia followed by an informal reception.


On Monday, 05 September, at 5:00 p.m. at the Old Town Hall of the City of Bonn, Markt, Bonn.


At this Public Talk Raji Sourani, Anwar Fazal, and Glorene A. Das, three laureates of the Right Livelihood Award, also known as the “Alternative Nobel Prize”, will speak about their life-long struggle for human rights. They will share their experiences and talk about the strategies they have successfully used to empower marginalized groups, as well as their motivation and private backgrounds.


Raji Sourani from Gaza (Palestine) received the Right Livelihood Award in 2013 for his unwavering dedication to the rule of law and human rights under exceptionally difficult circumstances. Anwar Fazal from Malaysia received the Award in 1982 for fighting for the rights of consumers and empowering them to do the same. Glorene A. Das, also from Malaysia, represents the human rights network Tenaganita, which was established by Irene Fernandez. She received the Award in 2005 for her courageous work to stop violence against women and abuses of migrant and poor workers.
All three Laureates are coming to Bonn to join an international workshop of the Right Livelihood College (RLC), taking place at the Center for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn, from 3-8 September, organized in cooperation with the Association of German Development Services (AGdD) and kindly supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
