The endorsement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which came into effect on January 1, 2016 has been followed consecutively by the introduction of the term Global Health.

These developments must be seen in tandem with the goal of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The international community expects Germany to play a greater role in Global Health. In this talk, the current status of affairs is highlighted.

International health challenges such as infectious diseases, Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and lack of infrastructure are discussed in the light of global response. Germany’s response in terms of structure such as the Global Health Hub, the role of governmental institutions and specific contributions of the private sector are explained in detail. The process is new with few visible results at this point but a positive outlook.
