* BACKGROUND:

  • We want to celebrate World Environment Day (June 5), the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and held annually since 1974, it has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach.
  • World Environment Day 2022 is hosted by Sweden. “Only One Earth" is the campaign slogan, with the focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”. See: https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/
  • At this event, we highlight the gender dimensions of climate change and ecological destruction, in both their causes and their consequences, as well as the relationship between gender equality and a healthy environment.
  • Regional experiences have much to reveal on the role of researchers in enhancing gender-related critical views and actions toward a transition to a more just world.

OBJECTIVES OF THE EVENT:

  • To raise awareness of the links between environmental conflicts and gender gaps in power and opportunities for environmental action,
  • To disseminate good practices of gender-sensitive research to end deforestation, protect wildlife species, combat and adapt to climate change and others related to a healthy environment,
  • To provide a platform for researchers to discuss their experiences in incorporating gender-lens into environmental-related research towards more just and cleaner lifestyles.
