About
The 2023 edition of the Interconnected Disaster Risks report by United Nations University revealed that our world is moving perilously close to the brink of multiple risk tipping points - the moment at which a given socioecological system is no longer able to buffer risks and provide its expected functions. The presentation will explore the new concept of risk tipping points, present examples and will discuss the usefulness of the concept for both further research and science communication.
Since January 2021, Prof. Dr. Zita Sebesvari is the Deputy Director of the UNU Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS). She heads the institute’s Risk and Adaptation department and serves as the scientific lead of the EHS flagship report Interconnected Disaster Risks. An ecologist by training, Dr. Sebesvari holds a Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat.) in Environmental Science from the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, Germany. She also holds a M.Sc. in History, and has a great interest in inter- and transdisciplinary research design and project implementation..
