Unsafe food affects 2 Billion people and especially the poor: Declaration by Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition and the Pontifical Academy of Science

Rome, October 26, 2018. The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition and the Pontifical Academy of Science released a Declaration on “Food Safety and Healthy Diets for All”. It is based on a Workshop on Food Safety and Healthy Diets held in the Vatican, September 12-13, 2018 and was signed by 27 experts in food and nutrition issues, as well as policy and religious leaders.

ZEF-Director and Pontifical Academy President Joachim von Braun co-organized and chaired the workshop, in which Directors General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) participated. The workshop prepared for the agenda of an upcoming global conference on food safety by WHO and FAO scheduled for February 2019 in Addis Ababa.
