World without Hunger: ZEF-researchers stay committed
November 20, 2024.
ZEF-senior researcher Beza Beyene Chichaibelu attended and presented her work at the international conference World without Hunger, which was organized and hosted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the African Union in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Abeba, November 5-7, 2024.
Dr. Chichaibelu gave her presentation on the topic of “Ending Hunger by 2030: Consequences of Complacency and the New Financial Needs for Achieving SDG2” as part of a series of side events called “Solution Talks” on November 7, 2024. The theme of Beza’s session was “Ending Hunger by 2030: Consequences of Complacency and the New Financial Needs for Achieving SDG2.”
The session took place in the morning of day 3, which focused on Global Action against Hunger and followed immediately after the high-level opening ceremony led by heads of state.

Dr. Chichaibelu has been working on the topic of how to eradicate hunger for many years. In May this year she co-authored together with Professor Joachim von Braun a study and policy brief with calculations on the cost of additional investments for eradicating hunger by 2030. The authors also proposed ten short-term measures with immediate impact and high potential for hunger reduction.
- The ZEF-study estimated investment needs and priority interventions to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger).
- It followed from an earlier cost estimate carried out by ZEF and FAO in 2020 which has been updated to reflect changes in timeframes and circumstances. The 2020-study is available at bit.ly/ZEF_FAO_SDG2[1]
- The ZEF 2024-study is available at bit.ly/ZEF_SDG2_2024 and the related policy brief at bit.ly/ZEF_SDG2_2024_pb.
