THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA'S

EIGHTH ANNUAL TAX SYMPOSIUM

 

Chapel Hill, North Carolina

April 1 & 2, 2005

 

 

The University of North Carolina is organizing its eighth

annual symposium designed to bring together leading tax

scholars from economics, accounting, finance, law,

political science, and related fields. The symposium will

be held in Chapel Hill on Friday afternoon and Saturday

morning, April 1 & 2, 2005, and will be sponsored by the

KPMG Foundation. The goal is to bring together scholars

from different areas who share a common interest in current

tax research. Previous conferences have been very

successful, and we anticipate the same this year.

 

 

PAPER DETAILS:

 

Papers should be well developed, but at a stage where they

can still benefit from the group's discussion. The

symposium will include no more than six papers. Travel and

lodging expenses for presenters will be reimbursed up to

0.

INTERNATIONAL TRADE ADMINISTRATION (ITA)

 

Department of Commerce

 

Director of Office Economic Analysis

 

 

This is a Senior Executive Position in Manufacturing and

Services (MAS), part of the International Trade

Administration (ITA) of the Department of Commerce with a

salary range of 4,927 - 5,600 depending upon

qualifications.

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

A senior economist, Ph.D. or equivalent is sought to

oversee and manage a staff of economists and direct a

program of research and analysis on both domestic and

international policy issues. The Director makes

recommendations for policy initiatives based on the

analysis, and serves as a principal adviser to senior staff

within International Trade Administration on economic

issues. In addition, the Director represents MAS and ITA at

interagency and international fora. The individual being

sought should have an extensive and in-depth background in

economic theory, especially microeconomic but also trade

theory and statistics; broad and deep knowledge of and

experience with techniques for applied analysis; extensive

knowledge and experience applying quantitative models,

cost-benefit analysis and other micro economic tools to

regulatory issues as well as other policy issues including

trade agreements. In addition, applicants must have strong

communication skills including the ability to communicate

results of economic analysis to a non-technical audience.

The selectee must be able to obtain a Top Secret security

clearance.

The Department of Economics invites nominations and

applications for at least two tenured or tenure track

positions.

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

We are especially interested in international and

development economics and seek excellent teachers with

established research programs. Junior candidates must have

successfully completed their final Ph.D. defense by June

30, 2005. These positions offer competitive compensation

packages and teaching responsibilities that will enable the

incumbents to maintain high impact research programs.

 

 

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

 

Claremont McKenna College (CMC) is a selective residential

liberal arts college that specializes in Economics and

Government and is located about 35 miles east of Los

Angeles. The Department (http://academic.mckenna.edu/econ/)

has 20 faculty members and approximately 400 undergraduate

majors. Claremont McKenna College is part of the Claremont

consortium of seven colleges; Claremont Graduate University

(which includes the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of

Management), Harvey Mudd College, the Keck Graduate

Institute of Applied Life Sciences, Pitzer College, Pomona

College and Scripps College.

AEA/ASSA meetings in Philadelphia. To assure full
