WorldFish Center is an international scientific research organization conducting fisheries and aquaculture research in tropical developing countries. It is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The global headquarters of the Center is in

REGIONAL DIRECTOR SOUTH ASIA

(Duty Station: Dhaka, Bangladesh)

Description:

>To support further development of its program in South Asia the WorldFish

>Center is recruiting for the position of Regional Director, South Asia.

>The position will be located at the Center s office in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

>

>Responsibilities:

>The Regional Director, South Asia will serve as the Center s primary

>representative in the region and be required inter alia to:

> * Lead development of the Center s relationships with stakeholders,

> partners and investors.

> * Work with the stakeholders, partners and investors to develop the

> regional program so that this is targeted at regional needs and aligned

> with WorldFish s strategic direction and objectives.

> * Lead development of compelling research projects and identify the

> human and financial resources needed to deliver the identified research

> outcomes.

> * Lead, manage and provide intellectual input to inter-disciplinary

> teams to deliver project outcomes that meet stakeholder needs.

> * Supervise project leaders to ensure that projects are managed

> effectively to generate specified outcomes, within budget and timeframes.

>

>Qualifications:

> * A PhD in natural/social science discipline with solid knowledge of

> rural development and natural resources management in Asia.

> * A master s degree with appropriate experience will be considered.

> * Proven ability to develop and implement research and capacity

> building projects within a multi-disciplinary team.

> * Solid understanding of the role of aquatic resources for livelihoods

> and economic development; experience and strong knowledge of the poverty,

> institutional and policy dimensions of development assistance in Asia.

> * Proven ability in fostering institutional partnerships and resource

> mobilization.

> * Strong written and oral communication skills.

> * Strong scientific (peered-reviewed) publication record.

> * Submit on time all technical and financial reports required by the

>Qualifications:

>Rural Development Specialist - Aquaculture & Aquatic Resources Management

>Description:

>In recognition of the important role played by Africa s aquatic resources

>in providing food security and supporting socio-economic development, the

>WorldFish Center is expanding its program in sub-Saharan Africa. The

>framework for this investment is the Center s new Regional Development

>Plan aimed at strengthening the contributions of aquaculture and fisheries

>to achieving the Millennium Development Goals in the region.

>

>To support the development and implementation of this expanded regional

>program the WorldFish Center is recruiting a Rural Development Specialist

>at Research Scientist level who will work on the integration of

>aquaculture and fisheries management into rural development processes. The

>position will be based at the Center s office in Zomba, Malawi and will

>cover primarily the SADC region with additional responsibilities for the

>rest of the continent.

>

>Responsibilities:

> * Design and implement research and capacity building programs

> addressing key opportunities and constraints for improved aquaculture and

> aquatic resource management within the context of poverty reduction and

>RESEARCH FELLOW

>(Duty Station: Penang, Malaysia)

>Description:

>The WorldFish Center seeks an expert in community-based management of

>natural resources. The incumbent will be responsible to coordinate and

>implement a project entitled Community-based fish culture in irrigation

>systems and seasonal floodplains implemented by the WorldFish Center

>together with its national partners in Africa (Mali) and Asia (India,

>Bangladesh, Cambodia, Vietnam and China). This project, designed to run

>for a five-year period, was approved for funding by the CGIAR Challenge

>Program on Water and Food (PN35).

>

>Responsibilities:

> * Provide leadership and management for the project Community based

> fish culture in irrigation systems and seasonal floodplains ; ensure a

> successful midterm review (in the second project year).

> * Implement the project, holding workshops and meetings with partners

> to design and agree on work plans, milestones, responsibilities and

> budgets, and facilitate implementation, reporting and progress towards

> project goals and objectives.

> * Lead a team of support staff at the project office and frequently

> liaise with national project partners who will be implementing action

> research activities in the six partner countries.

> * Prepare timely, high quality, technical progress reports, coordinate

> financial reporting, handle external reviews, as well as liaison with and

> reporting to (a) the donor s Management Team, (b) the Coordinator of

> Theme Three of the Challenge Program, (c) the relevant Coordinator of the

> Benchmark Basins (Indus-Ganges and Mekong), and (d) the Managing Center s

> designated coordinator (at the WorldFish Center).

> * Contribute to events and institutional processes within the Center

> as these relate to the project and the discipline.

>Qualifications:

> * PhD in the field of natural resources management or aquaculture with

> a broad understanding of institutional and development economics, or a

> PhD in the field of institutional economics or development sociology with

> a broad understanding of natural resource management or aquaculture, with

> more than 3 years research experience, or an MSc in a related field with

> over 8 years of experience.

> * Extensive experience in the field of community based natural

> resources management.

> * Demonstrated leadership capacity of large multi-site multi-country

> projects with virtual teams involving different nationalities and

> cultures, managing the individual work sites towards successful outcome,

> on time, within budget and according to work plan.

> * Target oriented project management capability according to

> milestones and deliverables.

> * Good technical and analytical skills, as well as publishing track

> record in the field of expertise.

> * Fitness and ability to travel extensively to remote rural locations

> in Africa and Asia.

>" PhD in related field (sociology, geography, anthropology, political

>science, natural resources economics, institutional economics, development

>policy, law, etc.) with more than 3 years research experience or Masters

>with 8 years research experience " Field experience addressing social

>dimensions of natural resources management, rural development, or

>fisheries & aquaculture in developing countries " Strong research skills

>and publishing track record, ability to critically assess and synthesize

>existing research; excellent writing skills " Demonstrated ability to

>conduct training and support institutional capacity building, and proven

>project management skills are an advantage " Experience in Cambodia,

>Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, or Myanmar and proficiency in a national language

>of the region is an added advantage
