SIt has been one- year since we moved to New Delhi. To mark the occasion, our Chairman Ernesto Zedillo hosted a dinner in Delhi. The Finance Minister of India, Mr. P. Chidambaram was a guest speaker. Commending GDN on its unique approach, the Minister said the Network had crucial inputs to provide in designing poverty alleviation strategies noy just for India, but for the rest of the developing world as well. He expressed the Indian government’s full support to GDN.

-> Board of Directors Meeting

Our anniversary celebrations coincided with the two-day meeting of the GDN Board in New Delhi. Board Members met at our office to discuss progress made at GDN over the last year. This is the first meeting of the GDN Board of Directors in Delhi.

 

 

 

 

 

-> GDN welcomes Vincenzo Porcasi to the Board

**********************************

 

Vincenzo Porcasi, has been selected as a member of the GDN Board. He will represent the Italian research community on our Board. Prof. Porcasi is a professor of International Economy at the University of Trieste, Italy. We welcome him to the GDN Board.

GDN is accepting applications for the post of President and CEO. The President of GDN must be an energetic and innovative leader capable of advancing the organization’s goals.

The President reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for:

 

-> Program development: Initiating, implementing, and monitoring, research capacity-building programs in interaction with regional networks

-> Communications: Promoting GDN in the development community

-> Resource mobilization: Raising funds from official sources, multilateral and bilateral, and from private sources

-> Management: Managing a small secretariat

Submissions are being accepted for the Seventh Annual Awards and Medals Competition, which carries prizes in cash and travel of over US $200,000! Submissions can be for a new research proposal or for a completed research paper. We welcome submissions from all branches of the social sciences. Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary submissions are particularly encouraged. The finalists will present their papers and proposals at GDN’s Annual Global Development Conference in Beijing, China in January 2007.

Enter the Most Innovative Development Project Competition 2006

As part of our annual awards competition, submissions are also welcome for the Most Innovative Development Project, which carries prizes in cash and travel of over US $70,000! The finalists will present their proposals at our Annual Global Development Conference in Beijing, China in January 2007. Submissions are being accepted for ongoing development projects implemented in developing or transition countries which hold the greatest promise for impacting local communities. Criteria include the degree of innovation and the potential for broad application of the project in other countries.
