An issue in Ethiopia: Forest Coffee Certification
ZEF’s CoCE coffee project organized workshop in Addis Ababa.
Representatives from research, NGOs, coffee certification bodies and the coffee business participated in a one-day workshop on “Certification of forest coffee in Ethiopia: State of the art and future directions”. The workshop was organized by ZEF’s CoCE coffee project in collaboration with the Ethiopian Coffee Forest Forum (ECFF) on April 22. It was hosted by the Institute of Biodiversity Conservation (IBC), a main project partner, in Addis Ababa.
The workshop’s aim was to exchange information and strengthen cooperation between the stakeholders involved in forest coffee certification in Ethiopia. Also, the main challenges and opportunities for future efforts were discussed.
One of the conclusions was that forest coffee certification requires tailor-made forest management principles and institutional arrangements, so the conservation of the worldwide unique Ethiopian coffee forest’s ecosystem and biodiversity can be promoted in a better way.
