ZEF researchers' activities at the African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE) in Nairobi, Kenya (September 22-25, 2026)

  • Matin Qaim gave a key note address on "Effects of changing food environments on dietary quality and nutrition", and was awarded Honorable Fellowship by the AAAE.

  • Janosch Klemm presented his research on "The urban school food environment and diets of adolescents in Ghana” and on “The effect of growing more alternative crops on food and nutrition security”.

  • Joshua Kafotokoza presented his paper on “Urban sprawl and urbanization implications for dietary quality in Malawi” and obtained the Best Paper Award of the conference. Read the paper, written with his co-authors Hannah Ameye and Matin Qaim, here.

  • Martin Parlasca presented his research on “Off-farm employment and food insecurity during rising food prices.

  • Elisa Langella presented her research on “Market access, market reliance and dietary quality in Ghana”.

  • Marlene Yu Lilin Wätzold presented her research on “Buyer characteristics and voluntary sustainability standards in coffee value chains”. 

  • Abdullah Karim presented his research on “Climate shocks undermine food consumption across agroecological zones in Ghana”.
