Project objectives

Main objective

The overall objective is to strengthen the consideration of biodiversity aspects in environmental impact assessments (EIAs) in Bolivia through collaboration between Universidad Católica Boliviana (UCB), Cochabamba, and the Center for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn, involving environmental engineers, nature conservation practitioners and policy makers.

The specific objectives are:

1. Establish a long-term partnership between the German and Bolivian partner Universities and enable regular exchange between staff of the partner institutions.
2. Develop a concept for the integration of biodiversity aspects into Bolivian EIAs based on consolidation and adaptation of existing tools and guidelines to Bolivian conditions.
3. Design and develop a joint of a university module (lecture and guidebook) that shall be used in the university education of environmental engineers at UCB.
4. Initiate discussion with the relevant Bolivian political institutions and biodiversity conservation practitioners with regard to EIAs.
