New Horizons in Central Asian History: Archival Sources and Environmental Studies

Crossroads Asia Lecture by Akifumi Shioya (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Tsukuba, Japan)




This presentation aims at introducing Japanese scholarship of Modern Central Asian History, which has developed in the last 30 years. The presenter also explains new research trend toward closing the gap between Russian history and modern history of Central Asia, focusing on the conditions of socio-economic life in Central Asia depending on the environmental changes. Through the presentation, we try to find and share a common thread toward establishing a new method of research in archival studies and environmental history of Central Asia.
