Dr. Juliana Jaramillo

Professional experience

Juliana Jaramillo is the global lead for regenerative agriculture at the Rainforest Alliance. Growing up on a coffee farm in Colombia, she learned at an early age of the challenges that producers of tropical commodities face. Jaramillo oversees the Rainforest Alliance’s global strategy for driving more regenerative agricultural practices and policies across its certification and landscape programs.

Prior to joining the Rainforest Alliance in 2019, Jaramillo worked for 17 years in academia and the public and private sectors, including Bayer Crop Science. Her work in sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and integrated pest management (IPM) has spanned multicultural settings across Latin America, Africa, and Europe. Jaramillo studied agronomic engineering at the University of Caldas in Colombia. From the University of Hannover in Germany, Jaramillo earned her Ph.D. in entomology, biological control, and IPM and her M.Sc. degree in entomology and phytopathology. In 2015, the Alejandro Ángel Escobar Foundation awarded Juliana with the environment and sustainable development prize for her research of semiochemicals in East African coffee landscapes.
