Alexander Rothenberg is a Senior Researcher at the Center for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn (since August 2024), working on sustainable and planetary-health-oriented nutrition in elite youth football academies. Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher at ZEF on sustainable (plant-based) nutrition and football food systems. He completed his doctorate in Modern and Contemporary History at the University of Bonn and the University of Cologne at the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies, focusing on slavery, dependency, and the production of elite bodies in professional football. His research bridges history, sociology, development studies, and sustainability, with a particular interest in food systems, sports, and social inequalities.
