Prof. Sarkar is an interdisciplinary geographer by training. Her research integrates political ecology, just transitions, climate justice, and socio-technical systems, with a regional focus on South Asia and Africa.
She has led and contributed to major international research projects funded by, among others, the Bonn University, CGIAR, IWMI, World Bank, UGC, and Future Earth. Her work spans groundwater governance, agrifood system transformations, climate risk and maladaptation, SDG monitoring, and gender-transformative climate adaptation.
Prof. Sarkar has published in leading international journals and edited volumes, and her scholar-ship informs both policy and practice in sustainable development, water security, and climate resilience. She is actively engaged in global research networks, capacity building, and interdis-ciplinary collaboration on environmental governance and justice.
