Hannah Ameye studied economics at KU Leuven, Belgium, where she also earned her PhD from LICOS, the Centre for Institutions and Economic Performance, in 2020. Following her PhD, she worked as a research manager, coordinating multiple projects and supervising research staff. She has additional research experience at institutions including the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS). Since 2023, Hannah has been a senior researcher at ZEF and a lecturer in Development Economics at the University of Bonn. Her research focuses on nutrition security in Africa, with a particular interest in the environments in which people make dietary decisions and how these patterns respond to acute shocks, such as extreme weather events, as well as longer-term structural changes, including urbanizing food environments.
