Martin studied Business Administration and Agricultural and Food Economics in Cologne, Seoul, and Bonn. He earned his PhD in agricultural economics from the University of Göttingen in 2020, focusing on food security and ICT adoption among pastoralists in northern Kenya. After a two-year postdoctoral position at Göttingen, he is now a senior researcher and project manager in the Division of Economic and Technological Change at the Center for Development Research (ZEF). His research primarily uses micro-level data to examine sustainable food systems and rural development. Key focus areas in his work are the sustainability of livestock and animal source-foods in production and consumption, as well as technology adoption and livelihoods among rural farmers.
