Tatenda studied Veterinary Science at the University of Zimbabwe and obtained a PhD in Zoology in 2021 from University of Pretoria. He joined University of Bonn (ZEF) as a Postdoctoral Researcher in April 2022 working on the SFB 228 Future Rural Africa project: Future Infections: Linking social-ecological transformation and arthropod-borne infections. He undertakes mosquito surveillance, molecular detection and viral culture to understand how ecosystem diversity influences vector and virus populations in the light of large-scale land-use changes in rural Africa. In addition, he applies mosquito rearing and competence experiments to determine the effects of conservation and agricultural intensification (with a particular focus on invasive plant species) on selected arboviruses in the Kenya Rift Valley.
