The 17-page summary "Recognition, visibility, and the beacons set for a handover: Highlights of a decade of interdisciplinary research and education in the Aral Sea Basin in Central Asia" shows how buzz words like "capacity development", "interdisciplinary research" and "knowledge transfer" actually work out in practice.
The document shows how challenges were addressed and overcome to set up a lasting project infrastructure as well as academic and human capacities. The project is an example how research can and should reach out to local audiences and partners including share and stakeholders.
