RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN CONSUMER CREDIT AND PAYMENTS
A Conference Sponsored by the Research
Department and Payment Cards Center of
the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia
September 29-30, 2005
This conference will bring together researchers working on
issues related to consumer credit and payments. Both
theoretical and empirical papers are welcome. We also
encourage researchers to submit papers on consumer credit
or payments outside the U.S.
TOPICS:
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the
following:
- Personal bankruptcy and default
- Contractual and informational issues in consumer credit
markets
- Credit scoring and credit-reporting agencies
- Regulation of consumer credit
- Securitization of consumer debt
- Consumer payments networks and their regulation
- Pricing of retail payment services
- Innovations in consumer payments
- Cross-country comparisons of consumer credit and payments
The conference will be held at the Federal Reserve Bank of
Philadelphia on September 29-30, 2005.
Conference organizers will provide accommodations and
partial financial support for travel expenses to one author
of each paper accepted for the program.

CONFERENCE AND CALL FOR PAPERS
CESifo Conference on:
GUNS AND BUTTER - THE ECONOMIC CAUSES
AND CONSEQUENCES OF CONFLICT
TOPICS:
Topics to be analysed in presentations include (but are not
restricted to):
- Political economy models of conflict
- The effect of conflict on economic activity
- The potential role of globalization in fostering a more
peaceful or more violent world
- The relationships between development and conflict
- Better measures of the costs of conflict
- War finance
Both theoretical and empirical contributions are welcome,
as are studies that examine internal conflicts, external
conflicts and domestic and international terrorism. The
conference will include invited as well as contributed
papers. Keynote lectures will be given by Bruce Bueno de
Mesquita, NYU and the Hoover Institution, Steven Davis,
University of Chicago, and Edward Glaeser, Harvard
University.
Following a refereeing process, a selection of the
conference papers will be published in a conference volume
by MIT Press. It is understood that all submissions to the
conference imply submission to the publication outlet.

abstract is June 30th, 2005. CESifo research network

Peter Diamond is an Institute Professor and professor of
economics at MIT where he has taught since 1966. He has
been President of the American Economic Association, of the
Econometric Society, and of the National Academy of Social
Insurance. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts
and Sciences and a Member of the National Academy of
Sciences. He has written on behavioural economics, public
finance, social insurance, uncertainty and search theories,
and macroeconomics.

Assistant Professorship
in Behavioral Economics
For Research Priority Program on
"FOUNDATIONS OF HUMAN SOCIAL BEHAVIOR"
The University of Zurich has implemented a Research
Priority Program on the "Foundations of Human Social
Behavior".
Researchers in this program examine the determinants of
pro- and antisocial human behavior from the perspective of
economics, psychology, neurobiology, and philosophy.
Research in the Priority Program involves, among other
things, the analysis of the emotional bases as well as the
social and economic implications of empathy, fairness,
reciprocity, equity, honesty, deception, and norm
violations. In the context of this research endeavor, the
Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and
Information Technology of the University of Zurich seeks
applications for an Assistant Professorship in Behavioral
Economics.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The position is available starting in January 2006 but
starting dates can be individually negotiated. Applicants
should have a high research potential and should be
interested in examining the foundations and the economic
consequences of pro and antisocial behaviors.
The professorships will be embedded in a strong research
group at the Institute for Empirical Research in Economics
(http://www.iew.unizh.ch/home/fehr/) with excellent
research facilities.

Koch Visiting Professorship in Business Economics
The School of Business at the University of Kansas,
Lawrence, invites applications for the Koch Visiting
Professorship in Business Economics, to be filled with a
visiting scholar for the academic year starting August

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Senior candidates should have a distinguished record of
publication in applied economics and a national reputation.
Junior candidates with an interest and demonstrated
abilities in applied, policy-oriented research will also be
considered. Relevant specialties include, but are not
limited to:
- industrial organization
- public finance
- law and economics
- labor economics
- public policy
We have a strong interest in researchers who specialize in
state and local policy issues, and who have a demonstrated
ability to communicate with a broad audience. The position
will include support for travel and other research-related

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Koch Visiting Professor will teach one course and
undertake selected activities on behalf of the Center for
Applied Economics at the School of Business

to make economic research accessible to interested citizens
of Kansas and neighboring states and to provide economic
education for public officials, administrators,
journalists, educators and other opinion leaders.

BRANDEIS UNIVERSITY
Faculty Position in Economics
The Department of Economics at Brandeis University seeks to
fill one tenured-level position in applied macroeconomics,
international economics, or applied microeconomics.
Research and interest in areas with international
applications would be a plus.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should have a superior publication record and
promising research agenda, evidence of successful
undergraduate and graduate teaching, and the ability to
supervise doctoral research.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Economics offers an undergraduate major
and minor in economics, and a minor in international
business. Economics faculty also play a key role in the
Brandeis International Business School. Graduate programs
offered by the International Business School include MA,
MBA, and MS degrees focused on international economics,
business, and finance. There is also a small Ph.D. program
