DFG Equal Opportunities Program DFG Equal Opportunities Program

Two years of mentorship, shared learning, and meaningful connections!

Initiated by Prof. Dr. Ina Danquah, spokesperson of the DFG-funded Research Unit “Climate Change and Health in sub-Saharan Africa” and Director at ZEF, the two-year Equal Opportunities Programme brought together female scientists at different stages of their academic careers. The programme was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Pamela Luckau (KellerPartner GmbH) and featured structured training modules, expert guidance and peer mentoring sessions, designed to foster personal and professional development.

What began as an initiative to support female scientists has evolved into a rewarding journey of professional growth, shared experiences, and lasting connections.

On October 14, 2026, participants gathered for the programme's final session, hosted by Prof. Dr. Martina Maggioni at Charité Center for Global Health in Berlin.

A highlight of the event was an inspiring exchange with Prof. Dr. Beate Kampmann, Director of Charité Center for Global Health, and Dr. Catherine Kidiga, Founder and CEO of Buni Banda, Kenya. Both speakers offered candid insights into their personal and professional journeys, sharing valuable lessons on navigating challenges, embracing opportunities, and building meaningful careers as women in leadership.

Reflecting on the two-year journey, participants highlighted that the program had grown beyond a series of mentorship sessions into a supportive network of shared learning, mutual encouragement, and meaningful connections extending beyond academia.

💡 One message stood out: Career paths may differ, but shared experiences can inspire, guide, and empower others to pursue their own paths with confidence.

The program stands as a testament to the value of intentional mentorship, supportive networks, and equal opportunities in advancing women's careers in science and beyond.
