Tina Beuchelt is an accredited professional shepherd and keeps around 16 sheep herself. At the event in Bonn she had brought only a few. In an interview with the ZEF PR team Tina talked about the ecosystem services that sheep provide, how she became interested in breeding sheep herself and what the challenges are for keeping a herd of sheep. She also told us how her two professions, one as a researcher and one as a herder, can conflict but also complement each other.
She expressed her hope that FAO International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists will lead to more global and local recognition of herders and researchers in the field.
