Main take-aways from Professor Qaim's talk:
- Sustainable food security has not yet been achieved globally, but is generally possible if we comprehensively transform our food systems.
- We need action in many areas: new technologies, changes in consumption patterns, efficient international exchange, and societal openness to innovation and change.
- Research plays an important role; an interdisciplinary-systems perspective is essential, integrating agricultural, nutritional, environmental, and socioeconomic sciences.
- We are well-positioned in North Rhine-Westphalia for such research with international visibility and impact. But there is no room for complacency, we can still get better.
