Stakeholder Workshop in Gandhinagar, 28 September 2022

ZEF together with the Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG), Gujarat, hosted a hybrid workshop on 28th September 2022 for stakeholders primarily in India with the possibility for colleagues to join from Germany. The workshop aimed to provide an overview of the One Health activities and to serve as a kick-off for doctoral research in Ahmedabad in the following thematic areas:

It also included a welcome address by Prof. Dileep Mavalankar, director of the IIPHG, as well as contributions from Prof. Deepak Saxena, professor at the IIPHG, Dr. Sandul Yasobant, technical officer at the IIPHG, and Ana Maria Perez Arredondo, coordinator of the One Health and Urban Transformation Graduate School.

The event has enabled the doctoral researchers from the One Health and Urban Transformation graduate school to get in touch with key stakeholders in the context of their core research areas in Ahmedabad and other related topics, such as public health. Scholars, activists, academicians, and practitioners participated in the event and contributed to the project by providing feedback regarding the relevance and scope of the proposed research topics, by drawing from their experiences. The workshop provided a platform for the researchers to meet and interact with the stakeholders with whom they can stay in touch with for the implementation of their research study.

Stakeholder Workshop in São Paulo, 8 April 2022

ZEF together with the School of Economics, Management, Accounting and Actuarial Sciences (FEA) of the University of São Paulo (USP) hosted a hybrid workshop on the 8th of April 2022 for Stakeholders primarily in Brazil and also in Germany. The workshop aimed to facilitate expert consultations and discussions on urban health risks & potential solutions, particularly focusing on Urban Agriculture. The workshop was organized to help identify local needs and priorities which could then be aligned with the proposed One Health research topics in the metropolitan area of São Paulo:

  • Antimicrobial Resistance (Manuel Glass)
  • Health Impact Diets and Food (Pascal Segura Kliesow)
  • Environmental Justice and Institutions (Eliana Lins Morandi)

The event has enabled the One Health and Urban Transformation graduate school doctoral researchers to get in touch with key-stakeholders in the context of urban agriculture in São Paulo and other related topics such as public health and food safety. Scholars, activists and practitioners participated in the event and contributed to the projects in terms of the relevance and scope of the research topics. The workshop was a first opportunity to meet with people with whom the researchers will be able to keep in touch on a one-on-one basis in the following year. Stakeholder Workshop in Germany, 5 April 2022

ZEF hosted a virtual stakeholder workshop on the 5th of April 2022 for stakeholders in Germany. The workshop aimed to facilitate expert consultations and discussions on urban health risks & potential solutions, particularly focusing on Zoonotic Diseases (Surveillance, One Health Education), the role of One Health in primary healthcare, and One Health Governance. The workshop was organised to help identify local needs and priorities which could then be aligned with the proposed research topics.

The workshop included a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Christian Borgemeister, the director of ZEF, and a presentation by Ana Maria Perez Arredondo, the coordinator of the One Health Graduate School, on the One Health and Urban Transformation project. Ana Maria Perez Arredondo and Dr. Dennis Schmiege from InUPH also presented lessons learned from the first phase of research projects. This was followed by three presentations by the junior researchers Niklas Wagner, Jaqueline Hildebrandt, and Maria Luisa Espinel-Ramos on their upcoming research projects in the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolis. The workshop ended with a general discussion in subsequent focus groups.

Stakeholder Workshop in Accra, 8 February 2022

ZEF together with its collaboration partner ISSER hosted a stakeholder workshop on the 8th of February 2022 in Accra, Ghana. The aim of the workshop was to facilitate expert consultations and discussions on urban health risks & potential solutions, particularly focusing on Zoonotic Diseases (Surveillance, One Health Education, Operationalisation), urban transformation and migrant livelihoods. The workshop was organised to help identify local needs and priorities which could then be aligned with the proposed research topics.

The workshop included welcome addresses by Prof. Peter Quartey, the director of ISSER, and Prof. Dr. Christian Borgemeister, the director of ZEF, as well as a presentation from Ana Maria Perez Arredondo, the coordinator of One Health, on the project and lessons learned from the phase one research projects. This was followed by five presentations by the junior researchers Akwasi Owusu Sarpong, Joannishka Dsani, Abraham Kidane, Jaqueline Hildebrandt, and Niklas Wagner on their upcoming research projects. The presentations were followed by a highly participatory feedback session with the participants. The workshop ended with round table discussions and an informal survey over lunch which promoted networking opportunities between the researchers and participants.
