NRW-Premier Hendrik Wüst visited University of Tokyo

On June 5, 2023 a high-level delegation of the State of North Rhine Westphalia (NRW) visited the University of Tokyo in Japan. NRW-Premier Hendrik Wüst and the University of Bonn's Rector Prof. Dr. Michael Hoch were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Mitsuo Yamamoto, coordinator of the International Program in Agricultural Development Studies (IPADS), ZEF's years-long partner program. 
ZEF-senior researcher Dr. Juliet Wanjiku Kamau was attending the session too in her role as ZEF's IPADS-coordinator.

Digitalization in higher education and research in international cooperation for sustainability

DAAD's seven SDG Graduate Schools met in Bonn on June 5-7, 2023, to discuss digitalization, international cooperation and sustainability. The bilateral Doctoral Studies Support Program (DSSP) with Colombia, led by and based at ZEF, organized the conference. Around 100 people were joining from Africa, Germany and Latin America.

Sustainability research: Wolfram Barfuss appointed new Argelander professor at the University of Bonn

A press release launched by the University of Bonn (May 22, 2023) highlights its recently appointed Junior-Professor Dr. Wolfram Barfuss. Barfuss is based at ZEF and will conduct research on 'Collective action'.

Sustainable Land Management in sub-Saharan Africa: INTERFACES sets off

More than 100 participants (in-person and virtually) joined the kick-off meeting of INTERFACES in Bonn on April 26-28, 2023 to discuss the outlines of its five regional projects. ZEF is the lead institute of INTERFACES, which will run for four years.

We congratulate Sofyan Syahnur on obtaining a professorship in Macroeconomics at the University of Syiah Kuala in Aceh, Indonesia. 

Sofyan completed his PhD studies at ZEF in 2009. 
We were happy to reunite with ZEF Alumnus Raymond Abudu Kasei (batch 2006) who visited Bonn on the occasion of the Bonn Climate Change Conference in June 2023.

Raymond is working as an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana. He obtained his doctoral degree from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Bonn University in 2009 and was supervised by Professors Paul Vlek and Bernd Diekkrüger. 

 
Congratulations for Henry Kangwambe, batch 2016, on his new position with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).

He will work in IFPRI's Foresight and Policy Modeling  Unit under the Transformation Strategies Department as an Associate Research Fellow, based in Washington, DC. Henry graduated in 2020 at Bonn University's Agricultural Faculty, his supervisor was Professor Joachim von Braun.
