NRW-Premier Hendrik Wüst visits University of Tokyo

June 06, 2023.

On June 5, 2023, a high-level delegation from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) visited the University of Tokyo.

The delegation was led by NRW-Premier Hendrik Wüst, and included, among others Prof. Dr. Michael Hoch, the Rector of the University of Bonn. The delegation was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Mitsuo Yamamoto, ZEF’s academic partner and coordinator of the University of Tokyo's International Program in Agricultural Development Studies (IPADS) and by ZEF-senior researcher Dr. Juliet Wanjiku Kamau. They presented an overview of the collaborative efforts and exchange program between ZEF and IPADS and shared the progress achieved so far.

During his visit, NRW-Premier Wüst engaged in a lively discussion with exchange students from ZEF and IPADS. Joining online from remote were students from the Bonn International Graduate School of Development Research (BIGS-DR), along with BIGS-DR's Academic Coordinator Dr. Silke Tönsjost and ZEF-Director Prof. Dr. Christian Borgemeister.

The visit of Hendrik Wüst and his high-level delegation offered a good opportunity for knowledge exchange and fruitful discussions, showcasing the commitment of both North Rhine-Westphalia and the University of Tokyo to advancing academic partnerships and international cooperation.

Dr. Kamau Wanjiku is currently preparing a joint excursion for ZEF and IPADS doctoral students in Japan under the guidance of Dr. Tönsjost and Prof. Borgemeister, which is scheduled for mid June. The eight-day excursion will focus on the link between marine environment, agriculture, and common pool resource management in Japan.
