Scholarships

There are different ways to fund your doctoral studies at ZEF: 

- BIGS-DR internal scholarship funded by the Development-Related Postgraduate Course program (EPOS) of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

- Institutions, foundations, organizations supporting doctoral studies.

Scholarships and research support for our doctoral students are provided by a huge variety of organizations:
Governments of China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Taiwan, DAAD regional programs, Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, Katholischer Akademischer Ausländer-Dienst (KAAD), Fulbright Foundation, Volkswagenstiftung, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), Evangelischer Entwicklungsdienst (EED), Evangelisches Studienwerk Villigst, Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Stiftung der deutschen Wirtschaft (SDW), Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR),  Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, National Secretary of Science Technology and Innovation (SENAYIT), CONACYT, SENESCYT, ICIPE, Kenya, etc.

BIGS-DR is a full-time program. Financing the doctoral program by part-time work is no option.

BIGS-DR was founded in 1999 funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Today, the doctoral program receives financial support from many donors:

  •  German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and BMZ
  • German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF)
  • Foundation fiat panis
  • Consultive Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR)
