Biology and ecology of arboviral disease vectors: Evidence from Kenya
Arboviruses are a concern for global public health as exemplified by the recent spread of chikungunya virus (CHIKV), Zika virus (ZIKV) and dengue virus (DENV) with millions of cases worldwide. Arboviruses are particularly sensitive to ecological changes and can easily escape from their natural transmission cycles and adapt to new hosts and geographic regions. There is, thus, an urgent need to better understand the ecology of arbovirus transmission and maintenance, in order to develop control measures that can limit key arboviral diseases in Kenya and globally. This study aim to screening for arboviral infections and detected viral genome fragment. The study will be conducted in Baringo area, Kenya. The area is characterized by seasonal unstable arboviral diseases transmission. Adult mosquitoes will be sampled using a combination of different trapping techniques. The study will be designed to provide a better assessment arboviruses are present in the study sites. Also determine infection rates of detected arboviruses per mosquito species.
