Topic: Changes in dietary patterns and food environment in times of COVID-19

Speaker: Irmgard Jordan, Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT

Abstract:  The crisis related to the COVID-19 pandemic influenced food security and nutrition through both direct and indirect pathways. This ranged from short-term to long-term impacts, not only on health but also on food systems and thus on nutrition. Several studies, mainly online surveys, investigated on changes on trade and food consumption in general but limited information is available on changes in vegetable and fruit consumption. Based on findings from an international project and case studies in low- and low-middle income countries, this presentation will focus on changes in vegetable consumption patterns and thus dietary patterns and whether and how this may have been influenced by the food environment.
