Topic: "Introducing the Economic peripheral city"
Speaker: Maryoriet Rosales Salgado, ZEF Junior Researcher
Abstract
This doctoral thesis – working title The stay-at-home paradox: Narratives of Domestic Violence in Urban Honduras during the COVID-19 Pandemic - delves into the multifaceted repercussions of stay-at-home policies enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic on peri-urban households in the Central District of Honduras. Drawing upon Sylvia Walby's theory of gender regimes, the research investigates the increase of domestic violence precipitated by the pandemic-induced measures. Through a qualitative lens, the study engages in-depth narratives to unravel the lived experiences of women, categorizing findings into three distinct realms: the economic regime, the polity regime, and the social regime, each serving as empirical chapters for the research that unfolds. Emphasizing the economic dimension, the colloquium aims to introduce the intricate interplay between pandemic measures and women's daily realities, unraveling factors, associations, and underlying causes contributing to the observed escalation in domestic violence.
Maryoriet Rosales Salgado is a social researcher, exploring gender regimes through an intersectional and decolonial feminist lens, crafting narratives from the coalition within these frameworks.
