INTERFACES Panel Discussion and Market Place: Science in Support of Combating Land Degradation

Venue & Time: IDOS, Tulpenfeld 6, Bonn, 5 PM CEST

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, the INTERFACES team at IDOS in collaboration with the NGO “Let’s Plant!” is organizing an evening event including an engaging panel discussion and an interactive marketplace, accompanied by music, food and drinks.

The global theme of Desertification and Drought Day 2024 is “United for land. Our Legacy. Our Future” and aims to emphasize the transformative power of sustainable land management and drought resilience as key solutions to today’s challenges and to amplify a renewed global commitment in the run-up to the UNCCD COP16 between 2 and 13 December 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

INTERFACES is a BMBF-funded project, accompanying four regional projects, to strengthen the integration, coherence, and reach in the area of sustainable land management in sub-Saharan Africa. Specifically, INTERFACES on the one hand seeks to support impact-driven activities to build on networking, science communication, social learning processes, and capacity development. On the other hand, INTERFACES aims at complementary transfer analyses that enable and facilitate the implementation as well as improve the relevance and outreach of research-based findings.

“Let’s Plant!” is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the restoration of degraded land and the development of new functional agroecological systems through a holistic landscape management approach. Practically, “Let’s Plant!” raises awareness on the progressive degradation of ecological systems, develops new concepts, networks with equal-minded organizations, and implements projects in target regions.

With the aim of fostering exchange and science-policy-practitioner networking among organizations and people engaged in combating desertification, soil degradation and drought, INTERFACES and "Let’s Plant!" are organizing an engaging panel as well as an interactive marketplace.
