IFPRI DG Shenggen Fan talks about Food and Nutrition Insecurity in Middle Income Countries

Dr. Fan's talk at ZEF on May 18, 2015 dealt with the so-called MICs (Middle Income Countries). Close to half of the world's hungry live in five MIC countries, whereas at the same time overweight and obesity are rising in these countries. The IFPRI Global Food Policy Report 2014-2015 reveals strategies that can help overcome hunger and malnutrition in MICs and beyond.

ZEF-director Joachim von Braun on EXPO 2015 in Milan

This world fair has the theme: “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. About 150 countries have their pavilions, including many emerging economy countries. Von Braun is a member of the EXPO's scientific steering committee. He was also involved in one of the international dialogue sessions starting on May 8 about “Towards a Research Agenda for Global Food and Nutrition Security”.

First batch of PhD Students graduated at Climate Change Economics School in Dakar
April 29, 2015. 

On April 17, 2015, six PhD students from six different West African countries celebrated their graduation in Dakar, Senegal. The official ceremony was attended by high-ranking Senegalese officials and the German Ambassador and broadcast on national tv. The students are part of the WASCAL Graduate Research Program in Climate Change Economics at the University Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (UCAD) Dakar, Senegal.
