STRIVER Workshop in Hyderabad, India
July 10, 2009.
ZEF is a partner in the European Commission funded research project called STRIVER (Strategy and methodology for improved IWRM - An integrated interdisciplinary assessment in four twinning basins). Within the scope of the project the workshop "Changes in water governance in Tungabhadra and Krishna: the longer view" took place on June 30 2009 in Hyderabad, India, organized by ZEF in collaboration with SaciWATERs, Hyderabad, India.
This seminar-workshop looked at issues of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and water governance in the Tungabhadra sub-basin of the Krishna basin based on the findings and experience of STRIVER research in this region over the past three years. The findings and experience were used for a broader discussion on the future of water resources governance and management arrangements in South India.
The workshop format left ample time for discussion, which resulted in interesting exchange on future trends and possible choices in water sector governance in South India. The workshop was attended by 20 people from government, academic and NGO side, which allowed for an intensive discussion. Subsequent to the workshop a call for papers will be issued on the topic, aiming at a special issue of SAWAS (South Asia Water Studies; www.sawasjournal.org).
