Obituary Professor Stephan Klasen

Professor Stephan Klasen, ZEF Senior Fellow, passed away after a long illness on October 27, 2020. Prof. Klasen was for many years teaching in the ZEF Economics Doctoral Program and collaborated with ZEF research projects. He will be very much missed by the German and international development economics communities.

Stephan Klasen was Professor of Development Economics at the University of Göttingen. He was the director of the Courant Research Center 'Poverty, equity, and growth in developing and transition countries. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and has since held positions at the World Bank, King's College (Cambridge, UK) and the University of Munich. His research focused mostly on issues of poverty, inequality, environment, and gender.
