Keynote on “Arab development in a changing world” by Joachim von Braun

At the Conference “Food Secure Arab World: A Roadmap for Policy and Research”, organized by UN ESCWA and IFPRI in Beirut on February 6, ZEF-Director Joachim von Braun gave a keynote speech on “Arab development in a changing world”.

Besides political instability he cited employment and fiscal policy as two fundamental challenges, as they determine food security through macro linkages. Von Braun remarked that for achieving political progress it is essential to build trust between citizens and states; develop human capacity to foster employment; build social security institutions and adhere to human rights.
