ZEF at international conference on water management in Dresden

October 13, 2011.

ZEF staff was involved in a number of conference activities such as: Co-organizing the panel "Capacity development for the management of water in a changing world", which was part of the BMBF working group on capacity development. The panel was chaired by ZEF senior researcher Anna-Katharina Hornidge and attended by around 140 participants. ZEF also co-organized a panel on "Transdisciplinarity in IWRM (Integrated Water Resources Management) research".

Two ZEF senior researchers, Bernhard Tischbein and Daniel Tsegai, presented papers in different panels. The research conducted in the ZEF/UNESCO project in Uzbekistan was shown by a project movie.

The overall topic of the conference was the sustanaible management of water resources. Increasing and competitive water demand, global change and conflicts put the resource water under pressure. Thus, the concept of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) has gained wide acceptance as a successful way to tackle these challenges. The aim of this approach is to promote economic and social development by addressing and balancing diverse water use interests, while simultaneously safeguarding water resources.
