Special Issue on Water Supply and Sanitation as a Preventive Medicine

December 05, 2013.

The journal Water International published a special issue on ‘Water supply and sanitation as preventive medicine: Challenges in rapidly growing economies”. The special issue is an outcome from the water and health research initiative at ZEF, and part of the International Center for Comparative Water and Development Studies (ICCWaDS) team (ZEF-Wageningen-SOAS, London).

The articles in the collection draw its findings from China, India, Brazil, Nigeria, Namibia and countries in South Asia on the application of diverse perspectives, such as urban political ecology, urban planning, urban design, knowledge attitude perception (KAP) model, grounded theory, and water security.

The editorial brings these findings together to assess the relevance of the MDGs and also offer future direction for the Post-2015 goals (relevant to WSS). The concluding article calls for setting an agenda for comparative water and health research.
