Digital revolution in agriculture: Latest insights at Australian conference

August 30, 2017.

The recently held <link https: www.crawfordfund.org events>Crawford Fund 2017 annual conference on Transforming Lives and Livelihoods: The Digital Revolution in Agriculture’, focused on the impact of the data revolution for smallholder farmers and the challenges of modern technologies for agricultural development and food security. The conference was held in Canberra, Australia, on August 7 and 8, 2017.

Big data represents an unprecedented opportunity to find new ways of reducing hunger and poverty, by applying data-driven solutions to ongoing research for development impact.

By attracting some the world’s leading experts, providing extended question and answer sessions and opportunities for informal networking, the conference enabled participants to contribute and to place food security issues into a context relevant to their lives and work. From interesting presentations by high-calibre researchers and experts, the audience learned a lot about uses and challenges of modern technologies for agricultural development and food security.

This year, Alisher Ergashev from ZEF-b (Batch 2012) represented the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries in the Crawford Fund conference, for which he was awarded a scholarship from the Queensland branch of Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society.

Being an early-career researcher in Australia, Alisher enjoyed fruitful discussions with his conference mentor – Dr Malcolm Wegener, Honorary Senior Fellow from the University of Queensland as well as he had a chance to catch up with a ZEF Alumnus Dr Clemens Scheer, who is now a senior research scientist at the Queensland University of Technology. Alisher Ergashev is honoured to become a member of The Crawford Fund and happy to share this drive with senior colleagues of the Fund.
