1.Univ. Bonn: 10 Doktoranden-Stipendien.

Ab Oktober 2004 wird an der Landwirtschaftlichen Fakultät der Rheinischen Friedrich- Wilhelms-Universität Bonn ein von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft gefördertes Graduiertenkolleg zum Thema Einsatz von Informationstechniken zur Präzisierung des Pflanzenschutzes auf landwirtschaftlich und gärtnerisch genutzten Flächen in einer zweiten Phase gefördert. Beteiligt sind die Fachgebiete Pflanzenbau, Bodenkunde, Fernerkundung, Geoinformatik, Herbologie, Agrarsystemtechnik, Gartenbauwissenschaft und Pflanzenkrankheiten.

Das Graduiertenkolleg vergibt ab Oktober 2004 insgesamt 10 DOKTORANDEN- STIPENDIEN für überdurchschnittlich qualifizierte Bewerberinnen/Bewerber (Höchstalter in der Regel nicht über 28 Jahre).

Darüber hinaus werden für besonders qualifizierte promovierte Hochschulabsolventen/innen (Höchstalter in der Regel nicht über 35 Jahre) 2 Postdoktoranden-Stipendien bereitgestellt.

The unit "Production Theory and Resource Economics in Agriculture" of the Institute of Farm Management at the University of Hohenheim seeks a

Researcher

The incumbent will work within the EU Research project "Further Development of Organic Farming Policy in Europe with Particular Emphasis on EU Enlargement".

This is a full-time appointment initially ending December 31 2005. This position is currently open. Salary is paid according to BAT IIa of the German Civil Service.

Responsibilities:

- Scientifically evaluate policy measures for organic farming in cooperation with stakeholders in the organic farming sector and develop innovative policy measures for organic farming.

- Design and organise of a structured communication process (e.g. by series of workshops) with the aim to involve actors in the EU organic farming sector.

- Cooperate with partner institutions in several EU countries.

- Analyse the outcomes of this process for participants and in form of several scientific discussion papers and compose a final project report.

- Contribute to administration and organisation of the respective subproject in cooperation with project partners.

Requirements:

-•Master Degree in agricultural economics, social sciences in agriculture, economics, political science, or a related field, with a strong interest in agricultural policy.

- PhD or a minimum of three years of professional experience is required.

- Excellent proficiency in English.

- Knowledge of EU agricultural policy with regard to organic farming.

- Experience with qualitative research methodologies.

- Experience in facilitation and of communication techniques desirable.

- Excellent communication skills, team worker.

Im Fachbereich Agrarwissenschaften, Ökotrophologie und Umwelt-management ist am Institut für Agrarpolitik und Marktforschung, Projektleiter: Prof. Dr. Ernst-August Nuppenau, in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Einrichtungen des Fachbereichs Wirtschaftswissenschaften der Philipps-Universität Marburg im Rahmen des interdisziplinären Verbundprojektes BIOTA (Biodiversity monitoring Transect Analysis in Africa) - finanziert durch das Bundesministerium für Bildung, Forschung, Wissenschaft und Technologie - im Teilprojekt BIOTA-Süd S 11: Socio-economics of Biodiversity Management: Policy, Institutions, Land Use Concepts (Republik Südafrika und Namibia) zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt befristet bis zum 31. Oktober 2006 die Halbtagsstelle einer/eines

Wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiters/Mitarbeiterin BAT II a

zu besetzen. Die Vorbereitung einer Promotion außerhalb der Tätigkeit im Projekt ist möglich.

Aufgaben: Bewertung von natürlichen Ressourcen durch bioökonomische Modellierung entlang eines Transekten von Kapstadt nach Okavango (WP 5: Internal valuation of environmental services and concepts for resilience).

Voraussetzungen: Einstellungsvoraussetzungen sind ein abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Hochschulstudium der Agrarwissenschaften oder Wirtschaftswissenschaften mit Prädikatsexamen sowie die Bereitschaft, sich in formale Modelle einzuarbeiten. Sehr gute Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift. Auslandserfahrung und Erfahrung in empirischer Sozialforschung sind erwünscht.

4. CIMMYT: Research Program Directors (six positions)

CIMMYT´s newly restructured research programs require a group of ambitious Directors to lead them into the future. A Director will be appointed for each of the following six new programs (the location of the posting follows the program title):

1. Genetic Resources Based in Latin America

- Develop and implement strategic themes in the area of genetic resources and gene discovery, applying technologies such as wide crossing, genomics, genetic engineering, and bioinformatics.

- Provide strategic guidance for CIMMYT work to conserve, characterize, and use maize and wheat genetic resources.

2. Impacts Targeting and Assessment Based in Latin America

- Develop and implement strategic themes focusing on poverty analysis, impact assessment, knowledge management, innovative decision, and planning tool development.

- Balance skills in economics, anthropology, social science, and geographic

information systems.

3. African Livelihoods Based in Africa

- Develop and implement strategic themes highly focused on the use of CIMMYT commodities and technologies to improve livelihoods in sub-Saharan Africa.

- Develop partnerships that integrate efforts to reduce poverty in sub-Saharan Africa.

4. Rainfed Wheat Systems Based in Central or West Asia/North Africa

- Develop and implement strategic themes within rainfed agroecologies to maximize the impact of wheat-based systems on poverty alleviation.

- Knowledge of dryland farming systems and an understanding of efficient water use in dryland ecologies.

5. Tropical Ecosystems Based in Latin America

- Develop and implement strategic themes within tropical ecosystems to maximize the impact of crop-based production systems on poverty alleviation.

- Focus on the inter-relations of agriculture and natural resource management in specific production systems.

6. Intensive Agro-ecosystems Based in Asia

- Develop and implement strategic themes within intensive agroecological areas to maximize the impact of crop based production systems on poverty alleviation.

- Focus on the inter-relations of agriculture and natural resource management in specific production systems.

Each Program Director must possess the following qualifications:

-.Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field with 10+ years of research experience, including at least three years of research management.

- Strong record in applied research and delivering research products.

- Innovativeness and the ability to bring new ideas and approaches.

- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. Knowledge of other, pertinent languages is an asset.

- Ability to manage multi-disciplinary, outcome-oriented research teams and to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary, multicultural team.

- Experience in developing country agriculture.

- Experience in fundraising, preferably in relation to International Development Agencies.
