Assistant Professor, Food Marketing and Industrial

Organization. The position is tenure-track, 9-month, 100%

time, research and teaching appointment. It is located in

the Department of Applied Economics, St. Paul campus,

University of Minnesota.

PROGRAM/UNIT DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Applied Economics offers highly ranked programs of study at the undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. levels. The Department has a distinguished faculty, many of whom have won University and national awards for quality teaching, outreach, and published research. The faculty work in a variety of fields including agricultural economics, food marketing, agribusiness management, consumer demand analysis and household economics, resource and environmental economics, trade, development and technical change, community development, regional economics, public finance, labor economics, transportation economics, and economic education. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a teaching and research position with approximately equal emphasis on each activity. The successful candidate will be expected to:

a) Develop a nationally recognized research program on industrial organization and food marketing, investigating issues such as: supply chains for food products; information and strategic behavior; price and non-price competition; risk management; market and ownership structures; incentive systems and contract design; marketing strategies.

b) Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses on food marketing and industrial organization. Also participate in the development and teaching of econometrics courses that are part of a new quantitative methods concentration in the Department's M.S. program.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

Ph.D. in agricultural economics, applied economics, business administration, economics, marketing or a closely related field by the date of appointment.

Desired:

- Rigorous training in economics with a degree specialization in industrial organization, marketing, or a related area

- Training and demonstrated experience in applied econometrics

- Experience and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching

- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills for professional and nonprofessional audiences

- Published research

- Experience working with industry

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with the professional experience and qualifications of the appointee. Fringe benefits include employee health, dental, and faculty life/disability insurance, social security, faculty retirement and opportunities for professional development.

JOB DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS:

This Center will serve as both a focal point and clearing house, bringing together an intellectual community of economists, political scientists, legal scholars and others dedicated to exploring the complexities of international trade policy. For a Center with such a broad scope to be successful, the Director must have well-established policy credentials and connections, diplomatic skills to bring a diverse community of scholars together, and the energy to maintain the necessary outward focus of the Center's mission. The Director's responsibilities will entail convening periodic conferences and symposia targeted at the advancement and dissemination of research on contemporary policy issues in international trade; developing and maintaining links with the broader academic and policy communities by participation in high level policy seminars, public lectures, and other trade policy activities; disseminating research supported by the Center by means of the appropriate printed and electronic media; and mobilizing the resources necessary to support the mission of the Center.
